The information on Back Pain Solutions HQ is for general education only. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for an evaluation by a physician or other qualified clinician who knows your history.

Reading this site, using its exercises, or contacting us does not create a doctor-patient relationship. Every back is different, and what helps one person can aggravate another. Check with your own clinician before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have a diagnosed spine condition, recent surgery, osteoporosis, or another medical condition.

When to get seen instead of self-treating

Seek prompt medical care for back pain that comes with any of the following:

  • New trouble controlling your bladder or bowels, or numbness in the groin or inner thighs (call 911 or go to an emergency department)
  • Leg weakness that is getting worse
  • Fever, chills, or feeling generally unwell
  • Unexplained weight loss, or a history of cancer
  • Pain after a fall, car accident, or other significant injury
  • Pain that is severe at night or at rest and does not ease with changing position
  • Pain that keeps getting worse after a few weeks instead of better

Products and links

Some pages recommend equipment. If we link to a product, we may earn a commission when you buy through that link, at no extra cost to you. We only recommend items we would suggest to a patient, and a commission never decides what makes the list.

Accuracy

We work to keep content accurate and current, but medical understanding changes. Older articles on this site are being reviewed and updated. If you spot something that looks wrong, please let us know.
